Scam Alert: Phone Scam Involving Members with CU-Extra Debit Cards

Members have recently reported receiving phone calls about their CU-Extra debit cards from scammers claiming to be from Corning Credit Union (CCU). The caller poses as a CCU employee checking to see if the card was used to make a purchase at a specific retailer. When the member replies, the scammer will then attempt to obtain additional card information to verify the member's identity (like the card expiration date and 3-digit code).

Phone Spoofing
Fraudsters can "spoof" caller IDs and phone numbers to make it look like they're coming from legitimate businesses. So even if you receive a call from a number that looks like CCU (for example, from one of our local branch phone numbers like 607-962-3144 or 910-392-6688), be cautious. We'll never call and ask you to provide confidential information to verify your identity or your debit card activity. Don't ever give a caller any information about your card - even if he or she already knows some of the details.
